Diane Martel is one of music video’s most highly respected and relentlessly driven directors.
At the age of 20 Diane embarked upon a career as a choreographer – choreographing and writing musical scores for her own performance art group. Her work was produced at Dance Theater Workshop, PS1, PS 122 and The Kitchen. She was a recipient of 2 National Endowment Fellowships and NYSCA Choreography Fellowships.
Her love of film lead to her teaching herself the art of film-making by reading, studying film history and shooting Super 8 and Bolex. She then directed two documentary shorts for “Alive From Off Centre” both of whose subjects were dance subcultures in NYC. Her first music video commission was for rap group Onyx “Throw Ya Gunz”in 1993.
Since that moment, Diane’s energetic work ethic, versatile talent, genuine love of music and consequent ability to move between musical genres have built one of the most diverse and inspiring bodies of work in music video. Diane’s resume is stellar having worked with Method Man, Justin Timberlake, Mariah Carey, Beyonce, The Killers, Christina Aguilera, Mary J. Blige, NERD, The White Stripes, The Cribs, Goldfrapp, Ciara, Missy Elliott, Snoop Dogg, Franz Ferdinand, Pixie Lott, Natalie Imbruglia and Nas to name but a few.
