Comic book junkie, movie addict, and general pop culture sponge, Joseph Kahn has been consistently at the forefront of avant-garde filmmaking, earning him a cult following. His prolific music videos career has taken in pioneering work for the likes of U2, Chemical Brothers, Eminem, Lady Gaga, Wu-Tang Clan, Moby, Black Eyed Peas, Jamiroquai, Britney Spears, Blink 182 and countless more.
Almost impossible to pigeon-hole, if Joseph has a trademark style – aside from his mastery of visual effects - it is high-concept storytelling. From the comic book madness of his Oasis commercial for Mother to the genre-bending mayhem of his Muse promo, Joseph’s work is continually praised for its subversive entertainment value. His latest spots include Mother’s recent super-charged campaign for Pot Noodle and an Adidas spot for 180 in Amsterdam.
A self-taught filmmaker, his witty, imaginative and irreverent approach to his craft has been credited with single-handedly launching the careers of many of the music artists he has collaborated with. He has won multiple awards including several MTV Music Video Awards and a Grammy for Eminem’s ‘Without Me’ video – which also won MTV’s Best Video of the Year and Best Director awards. Joseph recently completed his first feature, ‘Detention’ (2011).
