London based Murray began his career making television documentaries for Channel Four's Cutting Edge series including “Playing For England” and “Seconds To Impact”, and short films “Outsiders” and “This Was My War”, co-directed with Beadie Finzi.
In 2005 he directed the Oscar shortlisted British documentary film Unknown White Male, the story of an Englishman Doug Bruce living in New York who experienced retrograde amnesia. The film premiered at Sundance and was nominated for a Grierson award, a British Indepedent Film award and a Director's Guild of America award.
Rupert returned to Sundance in 2009 with a nomination for the Sundance World Cinema Documentary Award for The End of The Line, a documentary about the effects of overfishing. The film has resulted in major retailers changing their fish sourcing policy, and earned him further nominations for the Grierson Award and a British Independent Film Award.
Most recently, Rupert has brought his documentary eye to commercials in a series of films for the Icelandic Tourist Board that won a Gold Lion at Cannes.
